1974 Myrtis Waller, Elaine's mother, taught us to make soap by a recipe she learned as a young girl in Mississippi.
1974 - 1985 The "hobby" period. Intense study, trial and error, and trial again. Many recipes and techniques tried with most being rejected. Entire family played a large role in testing. Skin still largely intact.
1985-1992 The refining process. Learned soap chemistry, etc.
1992 Equipment and process designed, recipe fine-tuned and established as a trade secret.
August 1992 Green Mountain Soap Co. incorporated.

1992 - 1993 Equipment purchased for larger batch sizes.

1994 Dr. Mario Novakovic, international consultant to the soap industry, engaged to help solve a problem which arose with the soap. Solution found, making the way clear for sales on the open market. Payment made with Elaine's pecan pies.

1995 Richard left full-time job with Teledyne Brown Engineering to pursue soap making full time. Elaine prudently held on to her job with NASA.

1996 Won bid to appear on QVC, the TV shopping network. Elaine had her six minutes of national fame.

1997 Name and logo registered as a US Trademark after a five-year battle with another "Green Mountain" entity and a bunch of Madison Avenue lawyers.

1998 Richard and Elaine joined the Handcrafted Soap Makers Guild. Richard has served on its "Panel of Experts" for soap chemistry and its board of directors.
